The Zoigl is brewed especially in the northern Upper Palatinate in small community breweries. The right to use these breweries was given to specific homes and properties since the 16th century.
A genuine Zoigl is cheap is not machine-bottled or sold in large quantities but is always freshly tapped.
The Zoigl served at Alter Pfarrhof in Altenstadt is easy to drink, from own experience, it may cause some headache the day after. Dark amber to brown, sweet and metal scent, taste of sweet malts, nuts and caramel, short bitter and dry finish
